3 weeks went by since the discovery of Amy's new psychic plateau. Though Shadow insisted that she limit the use of her powers, the girl still found herself stubbornly testing her limits wherever she could. Naturally, this led to multiple arguments between the couple, arguments that were never truly settled.
You see, while Amy now understood the dangers that Shadow was alluding to, she still felt that she should grow stronger and be powerful enough to face them. It was no longer within her nature to shy away from danger, after all.
From Shadow's perspective, though he was proud of her growth and progress, there was still too much uncertainty surrounding her new abilities. Being able to read the minds of and – possibly - telekinetically touch every person on the entire planet? That was unheard of! And, ultimately, too dangerous to leave unchecked.
It was this point from which Shadow based his side of their latest argument that very night.
"Listen to me, Amy. You don't yet understand the responsibilities that come with so much power. If you do not reign yourself in, it could drive you mad! Do you really expect me to allow even the slightest chance of that happening?"
Amy sighed in response. "What I expect, babe, is for you to have more faith in me by now, or at least in your tutelage. We've been training together for nearly three years, right? You've gone to great lengths to teach me combat, discipline, self-control, survival and confidence. But, after all that, you still don't trust me to look after myself or moderate my own growth and abilities? You're my tutor and boyfriend, Shadow, but you are not my father, so there is only so much ordering around you can do, got it?"
The black-furred WMD growled for what seemed like the umpteenth time that evening. Before he could retort, though, a sinister voice cut in. "I'd listen if I were you, my boy. It's very rude not to take a lady's feelings and views into account."

The two looked to the north to see Dr. Robotnik swoop in aboard his Egg Mobile, with Orbot and Cubot in tow. "As a gentleman, that is something I simply will not tolerate." Orbot blinked and said, "I thought you were a feminist, boss." Cubot added, "Really? I always saw the good doctor as a romanticist." Eggman, to his credit, chuckled rather good-naturedly. "Boys, boys, come now. I am all of those things and more! You should know that."
Amy rolled her eyes and asked, "Um, Eggman, if you're done stroking your own ego like a preteen with a lingerie magazine, would you mind explaining what the hell you're doing here?" All four males stared at the girl for her crass question. "…What?"
Eggman, surprisingly, crossed his arms in disapproval. "Shadow…" Said hedgehog just shook his head. "Don't start, Doctor, please."
Eggman just sighed. "Fine. To answer your question, Amy, I am here on business. I have captured nearly every non-Mobian animal on the planet to power the bulk of my troops. Now, the next phase of my master plan can begin! As soon as I take care of something, that is." Amy asked, "And what would that be?" He replied with a grin, "Cleaning house."
At that, Cubot called out, "All right, men, chop chop! Time to earn your keep and what not!" Not a second later, the air around Shadow and Amy bent and twisted, and an army of fifty robots, all of cutting edge design, appeared and surrounded them. Shadow wryly asked Amy, "May I ask why you didn't predict this?" The girl replied, "My predictions are still random. I'd be able to practice and figure out why if someone weren't restricting me."
"Tch. Then consider this more training."

The weather surrounding the area of Central City was just as turbulent and unforgiving. Thunder shook the skies and rain poured down to the ground, quenching it after a brutal four month heat wave, but making life just rough for the living beings that reside upon it. Many businesses were closed due to the ferocity of the storm, and traffic in, out, and about the city was beginning to get congested and out of hand. Citizens who were complaining about the heat hours before now found themselves wishing they hadn't.
One person, however, did not notice such things. No, she had other matters to be concerned about.
This person was Vivica Renee Freeman, the newly elected President of the United Federation. As she sat upon her loveseat within the Oval Office of the White House, she stared at the ceiling in worry. Earlier that day, Vivica had been forced to sit through an absolutely chaotic meeting with her administration and G.U.N. regarding the best way to deal with the menace of Dr. Robotnik. There were many differing opinions and views that were shared, and they were all loud enough to give her a headache. Thankfully, everyone was able to agree on three points.
These points led to one conclusion. Each and every immediate threat the planet faced (on record or not) centered around Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, and it was high time the two adversaries were brought in, one way or another. Vivica tried to argue that, while capturing Eggman was obvious, the same did not necessarily have to be done for Sonic, as the boy was not a criminal. She was also quick to mention G.U.N.'s "sucktastickly abhorrent" failures in doing so the last time they tried.
When she did, the G.U.N. commander, Abraham Tower, felt compelled to mention one more factor they would have to consider: the possible return of the infamous Calamity Baroness. Being relatively young, Vivica was unaware of this being, and had to be told of her amazing, humanly impossible, and often horrifying exploits. Shockingly, many members of her administration laughed at the possibility of the Baroness' existence, stating that Tower was either joking in bad taste or growing senile in his age. Vivica decided to give him the benefit of the doubt when she saw the barely visible fear in his eyes when he spoke of the Baroness.
Not wanting another debate to prolong the evening, Vivica moved that they table the discussion for another time. It's a good thing she did, too, because she knew the brutal change in weather would have made the mood worse.
And so, there she was, staring at the ceiling of her six-month-new office, hoping it would give her a solution that didn't involve hunting down a kid who saved her life and the lives of others countless times. "The more I think about it, the sicker I feel," she sighed. "I thought this job was about serving the people and getting the country where it's supposed to be. Most of these pricks only care about their own wallets and status, only treating citizens as a damn afterthought. We're supposed to be past this pettiness."
Vivica growled as she glanced out the window. "Damn it all. I emigrated from Mazuri to get away from stress, not get paid to put up with it!"
Shaking her head in frustration, Vivica decided to worry about it later, and sat up to get ready to retire for the day. As she did, her personal smartphone rang. A smile came to her beautiful face as she recognized the ringtone, prompting her to set her dilemma to the back of her mind for the moment as she answered it. "Hey, baby," she greeted, "You make it home safe? … Great! I was worried. That storm came out of nowhere! … Now don't start that mess. Today is a good day, remember? … That's more like it.
"How's everything going? … Ooh, honey, I know what you mean. Getting used to this job is definitely a work in progress. … You know I can't talk about the whole meeting. You've probably heard enough about it on your own, anyway. … *sigh* Yes, Tower is still stressed. What, is he taking it out on you? … *sigh* I'll talk to him about it, but honestly, honey, can you blame him? If the stories about the Calamity Baroness are true, I think we could all benefit from making sure she stays retired. … Hm. That's a bold statement, even coming from the 'Beast of G.U.N.' … Yes, I'm going to keep calling you that. It's sexy."
She loved boosting her boyfriend's morale. Not just because he desperately needed it, but because he was always doing the same for her. It was one of many things they adored about one another. Vivica was convinced he was the one, even though he was, in fact, a Mobian. They wanted to announce their relationship, but they knew they couldn't just yet, as she was reminding him.
"And besides, if we did go public, the scandal would be just as overwhelming for you. … I know you're made progress in your therapy, and I'm very proud of you for it, but this could undo all of that. Do you really want to risk that? … Yes, I know, baby. … Yes. … Mmhm. … No, I'm listening, dear. … What, again? … Well, you know how cruel the Internet can be. We've made progress in society, but, the more things change… … Mmhm, that's true.
"Ooh, listen, honey, I have to get home before this weather worsens. You'd better do the same. … Of course. I'll call back when I get to my room. There are other matters we need to discuss. … *giggle* Yes, those matters, too. No man gets away with turning me on at a bad time. … Stop it! I really do need to go! … I swear, you are so going to get it on our next date! … Alright, Mr. 'Beast', I'm hanging up! … Hmph! I love you, too. Goodbye!"
Vivica groaned in mock irritation. Her boyfriend always had that effect on her. It was a pain to keep their relationship under wraps for the past year and a half, but she was still grateful she had him in her life. She had a feeling she would need his support in the time to come. Just as she began to worry again, her phone starting ringing again as she was walking out the door to her limousine. She waited until she was seated in the car before answering it. It was a picture message.
"…!!! Okay, now he's REALLY going to get it."

There were many differing opinions and views that were shared, and they were all loud enough to give her a headache. Thankfully, everyone was able to agree on three points.
- Dr. Robotnik has been at large for far too long. The various invasions of populated islands, threatening cities and their inhabitants, the destruction of Station Square, blasting half of the moon asunder, splitting apart the entire planet as well as draining it of life energy. The crimes against nature, peace and order were numerous, and those were just the ones the public knew about. Countless lives had been lost due to the mad scientist's attempts at global conquest – within the Federation and beyond – and with the Phantom Ruby War still a fresh scar upon the planet, ignoring/tolerating the Eggman's existence was no longer acceptable.
- The world could no longer solely rely on Sonic the Hedgehog for protection. Despite his impressive feats, consistent track record and experience in dealing with Dr. Robotnik, the fact remained that Sonic lacked either the will or the know-how to keep the lunatic from returning to wreak havoc. The mess he tended to leave in his wake didn't help matters.
- There was far too much that they did not know about. Who is Sonic? Where did he come from? Who are his parents (if any) and why were they so lax about letting their own child face so many apocalyptic threats?
These points led to one conclusion. Each and every immediate threat the planet faced (on record or not) centered around Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, and it was high time the two adversaries were brought in, one way or another.
